“The NY View” – trompe-l'oeil mural in Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg
“The NY View” in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district is a trompe-l'oeil mural: it plays with perspective and depth, and it is illuminated so it can be seen at night too.

About the project
Trompe-l'oeil depends on precise perspective: lines, light and shadow have to sit exactly right for the eye to read a flat wall as space. Kirk's studies in architecture and his sense of space help here. The second photo shows “The NY View” at night – illuminated, the mural takes on a completely different character.
At Wandkonzepte, facade murals are painted by hand: once the design has been agreed and the surface checked, the motif is executed with spray, brush and marker techniques, with the airbrush gun used for the finest details.
